Chelsea won 1-0 against Manchester City in the FA Cup semi-final. The big match was decided by Hakim Ziyech, who scored the winning goal. Werner takes advantage of Mount’s hole and leans in the center for the former Ajax, who deposits on the net.
Tuchel’s team flies to the final, where they will face the winner of tomorrow’s match between Leicester and Southampton. Broken dreams for the City, which will not be able to win the Treble. Kevin De Bruyne was injured early in the second half. The Belgian complained of a problem with his right ankle following a conflict with Kanté. Alarm at City, in two weeks there will be the first leg of the Champions League semi-finals against PSG.
Kepa Arrizabalaga may be a patient more often in the 2020/2021 season. Because, he is rarely trusted to guard The Blus’ goal. He was unable to compete with Edouard Mendy.
Kepa has only played four games in the Premier League, until week 30.
However, a different situation occurred in the FA Cup. Kepa has always been a mainstay, both in the era of Thomas Tuchel and Frank Lampard. The 26-year-old goalkeeper has always appeared in the five matches played by Chelsea.
Kepa also performed very well in the FA Cup. The most expensive goalkeeper in the world recorded four clean sheets in five matches. He only conceded one goal, namely when he met Luton Twon in the fourth round.
In the semifinal match against Man City, Kepa performed well. He made three saves which kept the Man City goal safe. One of Kepa’s saves came in the 90 + 1 minute while securing Rodri’s header.
Chelsea will compete in the FA Cup final. The Blues will meet the winner of the Leicester City duel against Southampton. The two new teams will compete on Monday (19/4/2021) in the morning WIB.
It is interesting to wait for Thomas Tuchel’s goalkeeper in the FA Cup final. Kepa clearly deserves to be an option because he always looks good and has been a mainstay from the start.
On the other hand, Edouard Mendy is Chelsea’s main goalkeeper this season. Mendy put in a really good performance and got a lot of praise. Mendy also deserves to be Tuchel’s first choice.
This what Thomas Tuchel has to say in his 🎙 post-Man City Press Conference :
“Chelsea were ‘very, very strong’ and is ‘very happy and proud’ of the team. Chelsea showed up on the ‘highest level”
“Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner ‘were very good with the speed and acceleration’. everybody on the pitch has to perform and they did today. it was a ‘well deserved’ clean sheet today and Chelsea ‘weren’t lucky’ against Man City.”
“If you play against Pep you know you’re playing at the highest level of Europe because that’s where he’s been at Barcelona, Bayern and Man City. He is the benchmark with his teams, you can see that with the Premier League. Our target was to close the gap for 90 minutes because it’s possible in football. I am very happy and proud with the performance of our team because we played with a lot of courage, very self-confident and were brave with and against the ball. We had a very good start to the match, first 35 minutes, and the second half. We deserved the win because we were very active and not passive. We deserved a win against maybe the best manager a very good team. We are very happy with the performance and it will be a huge boost to our self-confidence. We arrived with young team and young players so these experiences together are important. The most important now is to enjoy it today. Then we need to perform in an important week in the Premier League.”
“We had the same line-up, Mason, Hakim and Timo, against Liverpool and they were very strong. Hakim is more a dribbler, a guy who turns in the pickets. Decisions are never personal. Against Crystal Palace, the momentum was for Kai, Mason and Christian to keep going. Hakim showed me he’s ready from the bench and in training. Now come the crucial weeks. Nobody can rest. Everybody who is not the pitch needs to show they deserve to be on the pitch, to be reliable. This is what Hakim did, Timo did, Kepa did. And this is very important. It’s exactly what we need.”
“I said maybe 10% of our time, not ten minutes. To speak about training, it’s a very complex approach about what we believe. We don’t spend many minutes isolated on defence or offensive. We train on complex situations because the game is complex. We don’t try to divide situations in an artificial way. I spend 90% of my time thinking about offensive solutions and if you have the ball against City maybe it’s the best way to defend. We are strong in the defensive statistics and that is because of the players. We defend actively, very aggressive, and that is the key. Everybody needs to attack and defend. It was an outstanding performance in all matters and subjects of the game. It was clear we’d need that if we wanted to beat the benchmark. I am happy we could deliver and that was the basis for a well deserved win.”
“It was a huge target but there was no time to think about these things. On the flight from Paris to London, we thought about training, who to speak with, what to do against Wolves. Maybe that was good. I have always not tried to think too far ahead. You need to be ready to constantly go forward and progress. In the end, every player at this club need to commit to this approach. This is what we do and I demand. It’s what I feel from everybody, the staff and the team. This is the point. If we want to climb a mountain we need to start going, to walk. Every journey starts with the first step and that’s what you need to do. Take it step by step. Today we wanted to close the gap to Man City and we delivered that target very well. Now the next target is to forget this target and success and go into a crucial week in the Premier League.”
